Tension is the self-released debut EP from Black Snake Moan, an album that is very rock/metal oriented, but injects subtle electronics into the mix as well.
"Faces", the first track, is a good example of the band's sound as an "industrial" band. Lots of heavy guitar, almost metal in style, but with synths in the background to complement the sound; the song reminds me a lot of Hate Dept.
"Obsidian" and "Curtains" definitely fall more into a metal style, with no electronics at all - pure hard rock/metal songs, with heavy, crunchy guitar. "Caterpillar" has a slower tempo, but sticks with a hard rock style.
"Tension", the title track, reminds us that the band does indeed use synths, and again, plenty of guitar-work. "Static" starts out slow, but then cranks up the tempo; again, no electronics, more straight-forward hard rock/metal.
The EP ends with "Carbon", which is more acoustic and slower tempo - very , very reminiscent of Alice in Chains.
Overall, Tension is a good debut EP for Black Snake Moan. While the band clearly leans far more towards hard rock/metal, they do dabble in using synths, enough to put them into a industrial-metal genre. The music has a solid rock sound, with good lyrics and clean vocals.
